Two common ways of placing the Bagua can produce different results. The most important step is knowing which method you are using.
A compass method measures actual cardinal and intercardinal directions from the center of a home or room. The Later Heaven arrangement commonly places Li in the south, Kan in the north, Zhen in the east, and Dui in the west.
Some Western Feng Shui systems align the lower part of a Bagua diagram with the main entrance. This makes the map easy to draw on any plan, but it is not the same as a compass reading. The resulting sectors can be completely different.
Choose according to the tradition you are studying and apply it consistently. Do not tell one person their wealth sector is south because of a compass and another that it is northwest because of their front door without acknowledging the shift.
Our guides usually identify compass bases explicitly. The main Bagua map article explains both systems.
